I don't remember ever not being creatively inclined. My first painting, at age two, was made while sitting in front of our garage while my dad worked nearby. I didn't understand the Challenger explosion, but I couldn't stop myself from drawing the scene that interrupted Sesame Street. When I wanted Lee Press-On Nails in first grade, I made them out of carefully emptied pistachio shells and a coat of shiny red polish.
My whole life, I've felt compelled to express my perspective and experiences creatively. Sadly, I denied and starved this urge for many years; I dismissed my talents and became very unhappy.
After bidding goodbye to a successful-but-stressful stint as marketing director for a firm selling baseball infield dirt, I married, moved overseas and slowly realized that I have always been an artist. It feels so good to finally say that 'out loud.'
Art is in my bones and in my family tree. Henry Grant Plumb is a distant cousin.
